INTACH J & K CHAPTER is nearly completing three years of its work in Kashmir. While taking stock of the achievements in these years there is no denying of the fact that we have been able to generate at least debates and discussions on the importance of heritage conservation across a wide social spectrum. People from different walks of life are now talking about what we have, what we lost and more than that what we are loosing with every passing day. This public sentiment has yet to translate into any tangible action on ground. Well, some small steps have already been taken. We are trying to set examples, evolve benchmarks and that’s where the debate on conservation becomes important.
Communication and networking of different interest groups in a manner that produces a cohesive campaign on conservation of natural and built heritage is the challenge we have taken up. Its needs lot of perseverance. Furthermore, it also needs software support by way of ideas and sharing of skills. We hope men and women of vision who have shown concern about vandalism of heritage will share their knowledge and resources with us. All of us have a role, small or big, to play. We firmly believe that the idea of Kashmir has arrived. Let’s do our bit to take this idea further.
