Be Responsible Citizens

We must protect vernacular heritage of our old city. It is a living testimony of the Cultural attainments of Kashmir.

It is unwise to demolish old residential settlements and to convert them in to modern buildings which are totally incongruous in terms of materials used and construction system adopted. It is resulting in the great loss of the city’s heritage.

The Srinagar city has incomparable rich architectural tradition with its extensive medieval-like narrow streets and pathways linked by navigable river and canals. The citizens have to come forward to save this invaluable cultural resource.

Let us strive to preserve the traditional architecture, our priceless cultural assets. These houses, mosques, Khanqah’s, public buildings can be restored or expanded without resorting to demolition.
